The Skin Routine You've All Been Waiting For
For YEARS, and I truly mean years, people have asked me what my skin routine is. Honestly, post-puberty, I have never struggled with bad skin. Even during puberty, I did not have horrible acne and unrelenting breakouts. However, moving to Los Angeles, my skin had no idea what was going on and it showed. My skin is nowhere near perfect, but my daily and monthly routines help to keep it presentable. Also, Instagram filters and editing are a real thing in 2019 and I am not afraid to admit that I use those tools to my advantage.
Last year I started getting HydraFacial’s once a month at Maria Heckscher Salon in Atlanta, by the person with the most magical hands, Holly! This facial is a hydradermabrasion procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection simultaneously. The facial is soothing, moisturizing, non-invasive and non-irritating, literally making you think your skin has been injected with the purest water from Greenland. It is a little on the pricey side and since moving to LA, I have not found a place that I love that would help justify the cost. So moving forward, I started getting a mini facial and chemical peel every four weeks. Honestly, changed my life.
My daily routine is a little more affordable and luckily super easy to find. I use a daily cleansing wash from Honest Brand and toner from Dickinson’s. Moisturizing is key! I use a simple Jergen’s moisturizer. Additionally, I use a facial spray from Mario Bedascu once a day to keep my skin hydrated. I find my products at Target, and I get my facial spray from Anthropologie.
But the most important routine is drinking WATER. I drink at least 4-6 cups of water a day. I drink water as soon as I wake up and right before I go to bed. Also, substituting coffee for green tea is a great way to get that caffeine fix before work, but keep your skin fresh. (I still drink 1-2 cups of coffee a week). And whatever you do, take the time to get adequate rest. Lack of sleep shows all over your face.
That’s all for my skin regiments. Please drop your fave skin routines and products in the comments, I would love to know what works for you!
