Saint Laurent Spring 2020 Menswear
Imagine driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, venturing towards Malibu, hearing the waves crash on the shore, the lights from the Santa Monica pier Ferris wheel slowly disintegrating in the background of your review mirror and you are preparing yourself for a night of complete art.
Well, that is what the fashion community—me not included—felt arriving to the Spring 2020 Menswear Saint Laurent show in Malibu last night. And let’s just say, Anthony Vaccarello captured the bohemian, free-spirited buttoned up style of LA on the shores of one of the city’s most prized beach. Vaccarello said his inspiration for the show was drawn from the escape of Los Angeles and Marrekech and Mick Jagger on the Rolling Stones tour in 1975. Chic!
The ease of the collection sparks the bohemian vibe, but also the intricate design and placement of rhinestones, cut of pants, and fabric choice stayed true to the Saint Laurent brand—rocker chic. Since living in LA for almost a year, I see the downtown Ace Hotel rooftop guy, spilling in from an amazing concert, but he is also really in tune with what is going on in the world. Vaccarello captured the scene of Los Angeles that gets lost between Beverly Hills spin monsters and wave riding beach goers. The collection is a perfect mixture of both—from tunics, to blazers, to cut off shorts, to harem pants. Needless to say, I am impressed and I am in love.
