FW 2020 Fashion Month is Over: My Favorites and Trend Forecasts

It is the end of one of the greatest months in the year—fashion month. Well, the first fashion month that is. All of February, from New York City to Paris, designers showcased their Fall/Winter 2020 collections.

Now I would love to say that I was hopping from show to show, city to city, ingesting all the new trends and inspiration for the upcoming seasons; however, I was in LA on my couch watching on YouTube—thank God for the digital age! However, due to my extensive research and keen eye for style I can talk to you all about my favorite shows and trends that I see surfacing for fall.

Disclaimer: It is called fashion month; therefore, I am selecting a few shows that I fell in love with. I saw many shows and pieces that I adore, but we would be here all day and night.

Let’s start with Tom Ford who showed in Los Angeles during New York Fashion Week, going against the grain… we love it! Yet, my invitation must have gotten lost in junk mail or his PR is not a fan of me.

I am obsessed with just how simple and elegant the silhouette’s are. Yet, the mix of prints and patterns give the collection such a young and fun aesthetic—the tie dye, denim, silk, florals, all come together in such a romantic way. It is such a strong collection that really stayed true to the Tom Ford brand. And then the evening collection came and I just felt as if I was being seduced in trance of sensuality. I feel like every piece has a meaning that spoke to the trends of fashion in 2020—a 90’s structure mixed with the boldness of 80’s prints but it all playing into the gracefulness of Tom Ford.

And then we get to Christopher John Rogers… I firmly believe he is next in fashion and not just because he won a CFDA award last year. I mean, emotional doesn’t really speak to how I felt when I saw this collection for the first time and re-watched it and stalked him and reposted. It is simply fantastic, ground-breaking to say the least. Let’s just start with color is throwing up everywhere and I am not just talking about fabric. The blackness of this collection is what the fashion community lacks and has lacked for quite some time. His decision to have such a heavily diverse group of models is beautiful. He included different colors, ages, and genders, to make up such a beautiful army to showcase this collection—revolutionary.

Aside from that, the fashion backed it up. I loved the use of satin with bright colors, it was definitely an ode to style in the 80’s. The collection is eclectic yet cool. The billowing tops and gowns, the sequin two pieces, and the rich colors all come to play in the story that he is telling. He wants these pieces to be a dream to wear. Rogers achieved that with this collection.

At this point, what is New York Fashion Week without LaQuan Smith? He is the streetwear underdog who is new, exciting and makes clothes for that type of person. LaQuan Smith dresses the cool downtown girl who loves to have fun with her friends, a risk taker, and a bad-ass who can go from the club to work in 3 hours. We love that girl and I know that girl (I secretly might be apart of that crew).

I do not have much to say regarding this collection, other than he did a fabulous job. I love the statement bag and shirt. I can say with confidence that everyone in 2020 wants to dress like this collection! It is cool, against the grain, you get leather, sheer, mini skirts, thigh high boots, and bodysuits. Also, I need Look 37 sequin and sheer tank top for my next vacation… and to close the show with a snow white fur from Look 42 is just a little insane.

I am going to end this with Anthony Varcello’s Saint Laurent collection during Paris Fashion Week… I DIED. I probably still have one leg in the grave and the other leg sliding into Look 30’s leather culotte.

I live for a Saint Laurent blazer and he put so many down the runway in different prints, cuts and colors that it made me spiral a little bit. He included latex leggings, furs, sequins, thigh high latex boots and um, culottes. I have not seen a culotte in years and I have never seen a culotte that I want on my body as bad as I do with the new Saint Laurent. I could keep talking about this collection and how it made me embark on a new journey, mentally. However, I would rather everyone just look at it for themselves because words do not do it justice.

Side note: revisiting this collection, I truly cannot breathe, and I don’t think I want too.

All in all, here are my trend tips for Fall 2020:

If it reminds you of the 80’s buy it and mix it with your 90’s inspiration from last season.

Platforms are back. Lace and latex is in. Buy anything leather that is not a jacket—meaning buy a leather short, skirt, pant, bra or bag. And lastly, if you can see through the clothing, purchase it, sheer is in.

Out of countless shows, these really sat deep inside of me for weeks and I am so happy to share my favorites with you all!
