Cheers to the Bad Gal!
LVMH has closed its doors to new fashion houses since Christian Lacroix in 1987. But this past weekend, Rihanna screamed out “allow me to reintroduce myself” as she became the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH and the first woman of color at the top of an LVMH maison.
For those of you who do not know, LVMH is the company that houses some of our favorite brands such as Louis Vuitton, Veuve Clicquot, Christian Dior, Givenchy and Hennessy. LVMH was founded in 1987 and has its headquarter in Paris, France. So, as you can imagine this is history being made that a R&B/pop singer from Barbados has joined the family under her name, “Fenty.” I think we all know why she is suing her father for using her name under fake circumstances, there was LVMH money on the line!
Here is my open letter to Rihanna congratulating her on such an amazing and groundbreaking accomplishment:
Dear Bad Gal,
From dodging green screen rain in “Umbrella,” to releasing fur slides, to LVMH, the young black fashion community thanks you for your unrelenting drive to make your lasting mark on the beauty and fashion industry. Your accomplishments have inspired each of us to follow our dreams, despite the haters wanting us to stay in a lane that is simply comfortable (singing for you). Your style, your flavor, your beauty, and your DRIVE has gotten you to an unimaginable place for a girl “from the left side of the island.” We at #LATA love you!
Please check out some of my favorite Rihanna looks over the years! And always remember, WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK.
